Volunteer Medical and Surgical Missions
FAJR Global's medical missions bring volunteer surgeons and physicians to hospitals where specialist surgery is out of reach. Missions run in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Pakistan, India and The Gambia, and every patient is treated free of charge. FAJR is now preparing its first trauma surgery missions to Sudan.
How a mission works
A team of volunteer specialists travels for a concentrated period of operating and works in theater with the hospital's own surgeons. Every clinician gives their time. Donations pay for what the operations need: implants, instruments, lenses, medication and theater time.
Wherever it can, FAJR works alongside local clinicians rather than in place of them, so the training and shared theater time stay with the hospital after the team flies home. Partners include An-Najah National University Hospital in Nablus and Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad.
Each mission has its own focus:
- Syria: joint replacements and cardiac procedures. The most recent mission was in September 2026.
- Lebanon and The Gambia: knee and hip replacements and eye surgery, including cataract surgery, plus corneal transplants in Lebanon.
- West Bank: children's orthopedics, sports medicine, and knee and hip replacements.
- Sudan (planned): trauma surgery for people injured in the conflict.
- Pakistan: surgery in underserved provinces, from restoring vision to repairing hearts and joints.
- India: orthopedic surgery at Osmania General Hospital.
Surgery inside Gaza
FAJR's first mission inside Gaza ran from August 1 to 5, 2023. A 30-member team treated 152 patients with orthopedic surgery at Al-Shifa Hospital, Nasser Hospital and the European Gaza Hospital. Between April 2024 and January 2025, five more FAJR missions worked at the European Gaza, Al-Aqsa, Public Aid and Kamal Edwan hospitals.
In 2026, FAJR also ran a hospital. From January 19 to April 18, 2026, it funded and operated the Cardiac and Specialized Surgery Hospital at Public Aid Hospital, with 12 specialties running at once and about 170 to 180 staff supported. In those three months the hospital delivered:
- 1,581 specialized operations
- 6,007 outpatient consultations
- inpatient care for 154 patients
All of it was free for patients. See the project and its final report.
