Some injuries cannot be treated where they happen. When hospitals in Gaza cannot provide the surgery a child needs, the only option is care abroad. FAJR Global evacuates injured and critically ill children from Gaza for treatment in Egypt, Jordan and further afield, and stays with each family until recovery.
Why children need to leave Gaza for treatment
Gaza's health system cannot meet the need. According to the World Health Organization, 19 of Gaza's 36 hospitals were only partially functional in March 2026, and none was working at full capacity (WHO, March 2026). Specialized surgery, reconstruction and long-term rehabilitation are largely unavailable.
WHO says more than 12,900 patients, including over 6,100 children, have been medically evacuated from Gaza since October 2023 (WHO, August 2026). Thousands more are still waiting: in February 2026 WHO counted over 18,500 patients awaiting evacuation (WHO, February 2026). Between July 2024 and November 2025, at least 1,092 patients died while waiting (WHO, December 2025).
How a FAJR medical evacuation works
FAJR's One Life at a Time programme carries a patient through every stage:
- Identify: FAJR clinicians work with doctors in Gaza to find the children whose lives or limbs depend on treatment abroad.
- Secure the transfer: the team handles the approvals and coordination with governments, the WHO and receiving hospitals, a process that can take months.
- Treat: children receive surgery and specialist care in Egypt, Jordan and other countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States.
- Rehabilitate: FAJR stays with the family through recovery, follow-up care and rehabilitation.
Your donation funds the costs hospitals do not cover: the transfer itself, accommodation for the child and a parent, medication and the follow-up care that helps a recovery last.
Children FAJR has helped
Nine-year-old Mariam lost her hand when a staircase collapsed under shelling. FAJR surgeons reattached it in Gaza, and FAJR later evacuated her to Egypt and, with Project Pure Hope, to specialist care in the United Kingdom. Read Mariam's story. You can see every child FAJR has evacuated on our evacuation cases page, and more stories on Patient Stories.
What your gift provides
$100 buys medication for an evacuated child. $250 covers transport and accommodation for a child and parent. $1,000 funds a month of follow-up care and rehabilitation, and $5,000 goes toward one child's full evacuation and treatment.
Questions about this campaign
Is this campaign Zakat-eligible?
Yes. Paying for the medical treatment of children who cannot otherwise receive it is a recognized use of Zakat, and every FAJR campaign is Zakat-eligible. See our Zakat guide.
Who decides which children are evacuated?
Doctors decide, based on medical need. FAJR's clinicians work with physicians in Gaza and with the receiving hospitals, and every transfer goes through official approvals.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. FAJR Global is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Tax ID (EIN) 83-1497239, and your gift is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You receive a tax receipt by email.
Can I give without online fees?
Yes. Online payments carry a 3% card processing fee and a 1% platform processing fee. Give by Zelle to donate@fajr.org or by check payable to FAJR GLOBAL and the full amount reaches the work. How to give without fees.
Campaign updates
Every gift on this page turns into food on a plate within days. A gift of $9 funds one nutritious meal for a displaced family in Gaza. Your support is going straight to food, the transport to move it, and the teams distributing it with dignity.
A look at how a meal comes together: chicken prepared and seasoned in bulk, then cooked in large pots before being packed into trays and delivered while still warm. This is the same shift-based kitchen shown in the campaign photos.

Distribution is underway across displacement shelters in Gaza, reaching families who often cannot get to a market safely. Each parcel and hot meal is delivered by teams working directly where people are sheltering.
