From April to September 2026, FAJR Global funded and co-implemented the Karama Project with Taabu Club in Cairo, Egypt. The project brought displaced Palestinian women together to learn Palestinian handicrafts and to receive trauma-informed emotional support.
What the project offered
Women met in safe group spaces to learn tatreez (Palestinian embroidery), crochet and beadwork. Alongside the craft sessions, they took part in mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) sessions. The aim was to ease stress, rebuild social connection and build skills women can use to earn an income from home.
What it achieved
All 212 women enrolled completed training across three cycles, above the target of 200. The project delivered 137 vocational training sessions and 118 MHPSS sessions, and reported a 68.34% improvement in psychosocial wellbeing. The women made 1,014 handmade items, and 787 of them passed quality control for future sale through the FAJR Global Shop.
Who did what
Taabu Club led the work on the ground in Cairo. FAJR Global provided funding, technical oversight and safeguarding, ran monitoring and evaluation, and handles marketing and sales in the United States.
In the women’s words
“I came looking for a place to breathe, and I found a community and a new skill.”
Israa Qishta, 29, Palestinian artisan and mother of two
