Meet Safaa Qudih: From Need to Small Business

Safaa, a mother of five and the main provider for her children, learned to make bags and wallets at Taabu. Now people buy her work and she keeps growing it.

Safaa Qudih, 38 | Palestinian Artisan & Mother of Five
I’m Safaa Qudih, a 38-year-old Palestinian mother of five and the main provider for my children. With their father in Europe, finding a way to earn an income became especially important for me.
At Taabu, I learned to make handmade bags, wallets and keychains. But I didn’t want to stop at what I learned in the workshops. At home, I kept practicing, learning from YouTube, trying new techniques and working to improve my craft.
Little by little, that skill grew into a small business of my own. Today, people I know buy the pieces I make, which gives me an income while I keep developing my work.
Another part of this craft means just as much to me. Through my work, I can keep Palestinian heritage and identity alive. I see how deeply these pieces speak to Palestinians, especially those living far from home.
Taabu also gave me something I was missing: a community. I met new people who became like family, women with backgrounds like mine who understand what we have been through and make the space feel like home.
I’m not only learning a craft. I’m building something that supports my children and carries our Palestinian identity forward.
Taabu Club ran the Karama Project in Cairo with FAJR Global from April to September 2026, supporting displaced Palestinian women through handicrafts and emotional support.
