Meet Heba Al-Eshi: Beadwork That Travels

Heba, a visual artist and mother of two in Egypt, found a new craft in beadwork at Taabu. Some of her pieces may travel to the U.S., where her husband is.

Heba Al-Eshi, 35 | Palestinian Visual Artist, Interior Designer & Artisan
I’m Heba Al-Eshi, a 35-year-old Palestinian visual artist, interior designer and mother of two. Creativity has always been part of who I am, from my paintings to my design work.
A year ago, I was introduced to Taabu and joined a beadwork workshop. Beadwork was new to me, but I quickly found myself in it. The colors, patterns and details spoke to the artist in me, and through this new craft I began rediscovering myself in a different way.
My husband is in the United States, while my children and I remain in Egypt. Knowing that some of the pieces we create may travel to the U.S. gives my work an even deeper meaning. I imagine each piece making the journey I haven’t been able to make yet. It carries a little of my spirit with it, and somehow brings me closer to my husband.
Beadwork has also become the only time that truly feels like my own. When I sit down to create, I disconnect from everything else. It is my space to focus, create and simply be myself.
In every piece, I find a little of myself, and I send a little of myself out into the world.
