FAJR’s leadership on Our Team

On December 20, 2023, Tariq was standing at the door of his home in Gaza when a tank shell hit. He was rushed to Al-Shifa Hospital with a severe leg injury, and doctors first considered amputation.

His leg was saved, but the injury left extensive damage to the bone and knee. For months, Tariq endured daily wound dressing changes, often without anesthesia, because severe shortages had left hospitals without basic medical supplies.

In March 2025, Tariq and his wife, Azza, left Gaza for Egypt to seek the specialized treatment his injury required. Their children stayed behind. Leaving them was one of the hardest parts of the journey, and the distance adds weight to an already difficult recovery.

Through FAJR Global’s medical program in Egypt, Tariq began a multi-stage treatment plan to save his limb and restore as much function and mobility as possible.

His treatment is still ongoing. Each stage brings him closer to greater mobility and independence, and, he hopes, to the day he can return to his children.
