A Young Light in FAJR Global's Jordan Medical Evacuation Programme Has Passed Away

With profound sadness, FAJR Global announces the passing of Sara Mousa, a six-year-old girl from Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip and a patient in FAJR Global's Jordan Medical Evacuation Programme.

Sara passed away at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, 10 September 2026, in Amman, following a sudden cardiac arrest that did not respond to comprehensive resuscitation efforts.

Sara sustained a perforating (through-and-through) gunshot wound to the head on 9 October 2025, approximately one year prior, during the ongoing war in Gaza. The injury caused permanent bilateral vision loss and was complicated by intracranial hemorrhage and hydrocephalus.

For nearly four months after her injury, FAJR Global's MedEvac team worked tirelessly to secure the necessary governmental and institutional approvals and to overcome the logistical barriers to her evacuation from Gaza to Jordan. She was successfully evacuated to Jordan on 5 January 2026.

Over the months of her treatment, Sara underwent highly complex medical interventions, including three procedures to drain blood from the cerebral ventricles. She also received ongoing treatment for neurological complications and a severe infection of the central nervous system. She spent more than a month in the intensive care unit, where her medical team made exhaustive and continuous efforts to save her life.

Sara should have been sitting at a school desk for the first time this year, as a first-grade pupil. Instead, she lay in a hospital bed for months, silently fighting for her life.

May God have mercy upon her and grant her the highest place in Paradise.

FAJR Global, its personnel, and its volunteer network around the world extend their deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to Sara's mother, her three-year-old brother, and her eight-year-old sister, who remained steadfastly by her side and shared the burden of her long ordeal. During this difficult time, FAJR's team in Jordan is supporting Sara's family with every practical and emotional need and will remain at their side in the days ahead. We also extend our condolences to her extended family, and especially to her father back in Gaza, who was denied the fundamental right to bid farewell to his daughter, only a few hours' drive away.

FAJR Global expresses its profound gratitude and appreciation to the Jordanian medical teams at Abdali Hospital and to our partner healthcare institutions in Jordan. They did everything within their power and spent many long nights caring for Sara, embodying the highest values of humanity, compassion, and solidarity.

Sara's case is not an exception; it is one among thousands. The war in Gaza has inflicted unprecedented harm on its children. More than 20,000 children have been killed, while tens of thousands more are currently living with severe injuries and permanent disabilities, with limited or no access to care. Thousands of children require specialized surgical procedures and advanced medical treatment that cannot currently be provided in Gaza because of the blockade and the systematic destruction of its healthcare infrastructure.

Against this backdrop, FAJR Global continues its medical evacuation work in Egypt and Jordan, prioritizing critically injured children. Yet existing capacity remains severely limited in comparison with the overwhelming scale of the need. Thousands of children in Gaza are still waiting for the opportunity to receive advanced medical treatment.

FAJR Global reaffirms its commitment and determination to continue this mission in honor of Sara's memory, and of the memory of every child denied the chance to live a full childhood.

We call upon the international community and our partners to continue to support medical evacuation efforts and to help expand their capacity as rapidly as possible.
