FAJR’s leadership on Our TeamABC13 Houston reported that four children from Gaza and their family members have reached Houston for medical treatment. The station says they had seen tragedy unfold for more than a year before they made it. It says FAJR Scientific, which it describes as an organization that provides surgical care in Gaza, brought them to the United States.
It spoke to two people from FAJR. Alyssa Seliga, a volunteer for FAJR Scientific, said of the families: “It’s also just heartbreaking, knowing what they left behind and what they’ve been through.” Mosab Nasser, whom ABC13 names as the organization’s CEO, said these four children are a small fraction of those in desperate need. “So far, the numbers reported by local authorities in Gaza say that, and approved by the WHO say we have over 100,000 people that have been injured. Half of them are children,” he said.
ABC13 explains how patients are brought out. Nasser said FAJR submits their names to the State Department, shares them with the WHO and works out a plan with the Jordanian government to get them out of Gaza through Jordan. The station says the process is rigorous and can take several months. Nasser said FAJR plans to bring in more families for treatment.
For FAJR’s work, the report shows the steps between a patient in Gaza and a hospital bed in the US, and the volunteers who help make it happen.
